Update:  Details - new release date

To release an album, takes a lot of work -- and time.   A word from Immi, brings us a new release date of July 1st for Frou Frou's album Details (if it doesn't change 5 million times till then).  And, the first single "Breathe In" looks like it'll have a release date of June 17th!  Spread the word.

The official website www.froufrou.net should be running in about 2 weeks.  Take a look.

Check out the complete discography for Imogen's work from early beginnings, singles, collaborations, and more at the newly updated Disco[graphy]).  A great achievement only put together with the great help from Robbie who has plenty of access in the UK.

Frou Frou on Spinner's New GroundA must-listen interview with Guy Sigsworth & Imogen Heap with Chris Douridas from Spinner's New Ground (spinner.com).  Guy & Imogen stopped by the week of March 18, 2002,  for an in-depth and intimate discussion about coming together, musical origins, Frou Frou's name, co-writing and co-producing, how "Flicks" came about, why "Psychobabble" is the most dramatic song in the album, touring plans and more.  Throughout the interview, you'll hear the debut of "Only Got One," "Flicks," "It's Good To Be In Love," "Psychobabble," "Hear Me Out," and "Breathe In"
from the forthcoming album Details.

"Breathe In," the first single is on rotation with Radio One in the UK.  "Maddening Shroud" was originally featured on the Acacia album CRADLE with Immi's vocals (see Disco[graphy]).

According to Frou Frou's new MCA Records site, Frou Frou's collaboration began 3 years ago.  "With Imogen and Guy’s forward-thinking marriage of sound, blending electronica with emotional vocal energy and solid pop sensibilities, Details takes the past, present and future to a new musical level."

Lengthy and revealing new bios (also added to this site) from MCA Records (label name in the US) and Island Records (in the UK), summarizes Frou Frou.  From MCA Records:  "An extraordinary singer who acknowledged her voice almost as an afterthought. A sound specialist with a profound feeling for lyrics. A British partnership with a French name. Role swappers and rule breakers. Why try to deconstruct the contradictions when Frou Frou celebrates them? Voice, sound, songs. Emotional initimacy, unparalleled pleasure. That is Frou Frou-and that's all you need to know."

New Videos

The new video for "Breathe In" was shot a few weeks ago in San Francisco.  "Directed by Mike Lipscombe (Bullet Productions), the "Breathe In" video follows several characters as Imogen Heap and Guy Sigsworth encounter them and their secrets are revealed."  The video is to be released on MCA Records June 4th.

i MEGAPHONE -- re-released in Japan

The amazing first solo album by Imogen has just been re-released in Japan (only) on January 23rd by Aozora Records!  With a new cover and a new producer for "Aeroplane" (Daishi Kataoka), we hope new and old fans will find this album as engaging and dynamic as its debut in 1998.  Although it had a small distribution under the now-defunct Almo Sounds, i MEGAPHONE (an anagram for Imogen Heap) brings a powerful collection of fierce vocals and electric sounds with "Getting Scared," "Shine," "Angry Angel," "Rake It In"'s razor-like screeches (a must-hear live!) to the gentle melancholic ballads of "Candlelight," "Useless" and final lullaby "Sleep."  To old and new listeners, it'll be a record filled with emotions for keeps.

Immi with Guy - NYC Oct 13, 2001

Exciting news! The long-awaited album from Frou Frou is finally finished and will hit the stores April 22nd in the UK and April 23rd in the U.S.  The new album called Details has 11 tracks with its first single "Breathe In" concurrently due with the album's release in the UK.

"Breathe In" was recently featured on the "Roswell High" TV show 2 weeks ago and goes to radio in the UK in February. You can hear a clip of "Breathe In" in the upcoming official site for Frou Frou at www.froufrou.net   The nuts and bolts for the official site are coming into place as we speak.  There will be cool and exciting things to look forward, but for now -- go to www.froufrou.net  take a listen, and join the official mailing list for the latest news, as well as post your thoughts in the message board.

Frou Frou teams up Imogen Heap with Guy Sigsworth, each a creative and driving musical force who have poured over for almost a year recording the new album, Details, to bring us new sounds.  The recording done in a London studio and mastered in New York City gives each of its 11 tracks exquisite details of their own.

We met up again with Immi and Guy in NYC and celebrated the final touches they had just added at the mastering studio.  They were both pleased with the album's completion and eagerly anticipate its release to the public.

Spread the word and make some buzz!

Sound On Sound

The March 2001 issue of UK's Sound on Sound, features a lengthy 5-page interview with Guy Sigsworth.

Regarded as the producer who puts "art into chart music" with a determination to explore "new sonic territory," the interview details his collaborative producing, arranging, and musician work with the likes of Madonna, Bjork, Talvin Singh & more.  This recording magazine goes naturally in-depth to the technical details & lingo of Sigsworth's digital recording, who's eagerly embracing & celebrating the latest tools (Pro Tools) for digitizing sound.  By incorporating new ideas into the sounds and production techniques, we can only anticipate fresh new pop music from Frou Frou.

It adds: "Most recently, he's put his other projects on hold to finish an album he's been recording with singer Imogen Heap, under the provisional band name Frou Frou... Big things are expected from the Frou Frou project, with a debut album scheduled for later this year. 'Imogen and I both play keyboards well and we both like to write on keyboards, and there's something about having a real instrument.' "

"Breathe In" from FROU FROU

Recording of FROU FROU, the joint project/album of Guy Sigsworth and Imogen, continues in London.  For those who are a bit puzzled as to what FROU FROU is, we have added the entire article (scan with text and photo) from the UK Music Week trade magazine.  It provides further insight and exciting details on the joining of these creative forces.

Interestingly, on L.A.'s KCRW Recent Programs sounds eclectic,  you can listen to an early promo of "Breathe In" -- a brand-new song from FROU FROU.  Some early fan reception finds the new sounds "fantastic & stunning" with a feel-good edgy pop, not an oxymoron for this creative duo.  Imogen's vocals continue to amaze.  Take a listen and post your thoughts in the Lounge.

JEFF BECK new collaboration

Immi may have just one album under her, but we can make a new one with all the collaborations since then:  2 songs with Urban Species, 3 songs with Mich Gerber, 1 song for the Greenwich Meantime soundtrack.

Well now add 2 more.  This will blow your socks away!

British legendary rock guitarist, Jeff Beck, will release his latest album, YOU HAD IT COMING, in the US on February 6.  Imogen's vocals make, once again, an impact on 2 of its 10 tracks.  "The predominantly instrumental [rock/electronica] album is bounded by a collage of drum loops and digital-age wizardry, all at the service of Beck's signature guitar playing" according to Jeff Beck's official Epic/SONY site.

"Beck returns to his roots with "Rollin' and Tumblin'," a swampy blues gem that has inspired previous interpretations. "Rollin' and Tumblin' is something which has been lurking in my cupboard for 25 years," Beck says. "I've wanted to do a hot-rod version of that, but the drummers were never right and the singers weren't there." Beck found his ideal vocalist in Imogen Heap, a young Londoner whose scorching take on the tune was recorded in one pass."

Imogen's second track is "Dirty Mind" -- a perfect name for a deliciously naughty, moan-and-groan rockin' song.

"Dirty Mind" RA clip  (1 min)
"Rollin' & Tumblin' RA clip  (1 min)

YOU HAD IT COMING had an early release in Japan on November 15, 2000.  Out in US stores February 6 or pre-order from CDNOW.

Check out Sonicnet's news coverage of Jeff Beck with multi-instrumentalist Imogen Heap.   US Tour dates for Jeff are listed.  It's almost unlikely Imogen will make any of those dates because she is presently recording in London with a deadline for Frou-Frou.

Many thanks for the heads up to upcoming musician Rob Diament [check his music at robdiament.com] and Drew from Wireless.

What's going on with Imogen?

2000 was a big transition year for Imogen.  Almo Records folded and Immi parted ways.  All in all, she was happy.  After the Swiss and Germany club dates with Mich Gerber in April, they did a series of summer festivals in Europe, especially Switzerland.  Her song collaborations for AMOR FATI with "Embers of Love," "Mare," and "Sirens Call" were a festival's highlight.  It was a creative, fun experience and a rich-pairing of Imogen's magnetic voice with Mich's 200-year old exquisite upright bass.  They have an alluringly beautiful and exotic sound.  We love them and highly recommend them.  Would you like to see them live?

Live videos

In the new Videos section, you can now see Real Videos from the 2000 summer festivals.  It's a treat for all.  The performances were simply stellar!  Also added, our bunch of Live vidcaps in Visuals.  See Discography to buy AMOR FATI.  A must to your collection.

Also in Videos, check out Imogen's set at 12 Bar London.  An amazing acoustic performance in London including "I'm In Love With You" and "Blanket."  You must see it.

New record label & FROU FROU

Moving on to the latter half of 2000, Immi lovingly called and sent us a "musical lot" package.  You can only imagine but what a thrill to hear the early demos of what's coming soon.  What to share?  Some beautiful pictures from a gig with Mich.  More importantly, and as published by a recent UK trade press, Media Week, Imogen has a new record label!  This is a recording contract with Island Records for a joint project -- FROU FROU -- with Guy Sigsworth who worked with her, co-writing and producing "Getting Scared" on iMEGAPHONE.  It will be an exciting album to be released worldwide.  Also reported in Media Week, they're presently recording high-end demos in London.  Guy Sigsworth last year co-wrote/produced Madonna's single "What It Feels Like For A Girl" on the Music album.  According to Imogen, her sophomore album should follow FROU FROU.  They are furiously working to complete recording FROU FROU for an exciting 2001 release.  Stay tuned for new music from Imogen soon!
