Put Alanis Morissette behind a piano and what do you get? No, not Tori Amos, but someone who's a lot easier on the ears though perhaps even scarier than either star: Imogen Heap.

The 19-year-old British singer's powerful debut album is a musical therapy session, as if she scooped out the deepest, darkest corners of her emotions and displayed them for all to hear. Themes range from passionate sexual yearning in songs like "Come Here Boy" to murderous rage in "Rake It In." Hell hath no fury like a young female pop star who's had her heart broken.

Fortunately, it's all spun together with a pleasantly sultry voice and a harmonically beautiful fusion of electronic and organic sounds - from funky acid jazz grooves to delicate piano ballads.

Given such a sophisticated first effort, it'd be easy to say that this woman is going to be the next big thing. At six feet tall, she's well on her way already.
